YMCA Western Australia’s Early Learning Centre in Bunbury with the support of Bunnings Australind created an amazing vegetable and fruit garden using recycled and donated materials.
Centre Director Rebecca Jack said “We are so grateful for the donations and support of Bunnings. With their help we were able to to create learning environments where children can explore the natural environment and develop an appreciation of where food comes from.”
The pre-school children and volunteers from Bunnings worked together and had fun creating garden beds and planting fruit trees, seedlings and vegetables.
The children were taught what would happen from when the seedlings were planted and how to look after the plants by watering them.
“It was amazing to see the children lean about gardening, they loved spending the day out with the volunteers and our Educators. The children cannot wait for the fruit and vegetable to grow.” Rebecca said.
Produce from the garden will be used in the Centre’s daily cooking service.
