Bunbury Musical Comedy Group’s latest production I Hate Hamlet, introduces us to Andrew Rally, whose only real claim to fame is that he played a young doctor on a TV series that was recently cancelled.
He has decided to move from L.A to the Big Apple into an apartment, sight unseen.
The apartment has been hand-picked by Felicia Dantine – real estate agent extraordinaire.
He plans to start afresh and try the Role of Hamlet in New York’s Shakespeare in the park - all 1476 lines.
To say that he is apprehensive would be an understatement, no matter what both his brash, assertive agent Lillian Troy and virginal, Shakespeare-loving girlfriend Dierdre McDavey want.
It does not help matters that in fact, Andrew really hates Shakespeare.
Initially Andrew has no idea that the apartment’s former resident was none other than the womanizing, hard drinking, and star of both stage and screen, John Sydney Barrymore the quintessential Hamlet himself.
Is this coincidence?
But once Barrymore’s ghost arrives on the scene – in full Hamlet attire – the pressure on Andrew is turned up a notch or two.
But when Gary, Andrew’s producer friend from Hollywood arrives with an offer of a new, high paying television series – the question becomes, what will Andrew choose, glory or fame?
With a cast that has over a hundred years of experience combined treading the boards in this production, it is sure to appeal to a wide range.
Sword fights, drinking, excitement and men in tights, what more could be asked for?
This production is staged by local director Glen Perks who has staged other productions including Beauty and the Beast, Blackbeard the musical and Jekyll and Hyde.
