The hunt to see who can grow the biggest pumpkin is on again this year as registrations open for this year’s giant pumpkin growing competition.
Schools and individual competitors in Bunbury have been challenged to grow the biggest pumpkin possible in a fun new competition.
Event Coordinator Den Baldwin is calling for people to register for their chance to win this years trophy and secure the $100 cash prize.
Harcourts Bunbury have joined forces with Mumballup Organics who are providing fertiliser and the Diggers Club providing the Giant Dill Pumpkin seeds.
Mr Baldwin said the competition helped to teach students about the process of growing food.
“It’s a bit of fun and it has some educational value for the kids and for everyone,” he said.
The pumpkin weigh-in will come around in late March or early April next year at reigning champion school Eaton Community College.
Mr Baldwin encouraged schools to plant pumpkins in two different locations.
“I encourage people to plant one on school grounds and one of grounds in case vandals destroy the one at school,” he said.
