Tradesman to barista is a big change for The Townhouse Cafe owner Craig Lyons but it’s not the only change he hopes to have a hand in.
Close to his heart are those suffering in the community with breast cancer which drove him to completely overhaul a vintage cafe racer motorcycle and auction it off for $18,675 which was subsequently donated to cancer sufferer Allison Taylor.
Now in his first year operating The Townhouse Cafe, Mr Lyons is putting forth a new initiative to stack up the cash to support Cancer Council.
The Cafe for a Cause project sees Townhouse Cafe customers purchasing a cup with the pink ribbon printed on it.
People then take the cup to their home, business or place of work and collect change to be counted and donated to Cancer Council.
Mr Lyons said the project began with the auctioning off of the motorbike in 2015 but a busy schedule this year forced him to change his game plan.
“I’d love to make a return to the cafe racer auction in the future, but until then I hope the community and local business can rally and support the cause,” he said.
“We’ve moved about 30 cups so far – I don’t have any targets set, anything we get will help.”
The community can also donate directly by dropping spare change into a jar on The Townhouse counter with the pink ribbon on it.
