The Choose Respect message and sport go hand in hand, according to Leschenault Leisure Centre Manager Richard Duke.
The centre, which welcomes about 10,000 people through its doors weekly, has embraced Choose Respect to encourage fair play, sportsmanship and respect for property.
“To ensure everyone can enjoy our centre, it is important that we help to foster a culture of respect,” Mr Duke said.
“We see Choose Respect as a way to encourage all participants and staff to appreciate and respect one another.”
The centre has installed two prominent signs, to ensure the Choose Respect as a constant reminder of the message.
Mr Duke said the adoption of Choose Respect in the Centre had already proved a powerful tool to assist staff and user groups approach and manage situations in a positive way.
Bunbury Respect Inc. Patron and Bunbury MLA John Castrilli visited the centre last week to witness the efforts first-hand.
“The management and staff are doing a wonderful job and the wider community will benefit from this now and into the future,” Mr Castrilli said.
“They are certainly playing their part in what is now a whole-of-community endeavour.
“Choose Respect is a message we can use in our homes, schools, workplace and sporting clubs. It’s a simple reminder for us all to try to stop and think before we act or speak.”
