Support and solidarity flowing in from the community stamps Julie Kent and Lina Pugh’s desire to kickstart a crisis care centre to support recovering drug addicts in Bunbury.
Eaton Lions Club spokesman Den Baldwin on Monday presented the pair with a $1000 cheque to support the centre, which includes a self-funded community kitchen. Mrs Pugh and Mrs Kent said they met with the club at a reception last Tuesday where they shared their story, their vision and desire to assist recovering addicts towards a better future.
“The Lions are recognised as a group that supports the community and we are absolutely privileged to be backed by them,” Mrs Pugh said.
“Their commitment to supporting us gives us legitimacy and acknowledges the need for what we do.”
Mr Baldwin said the club was in support of their work to reduce isolation and integrate recovering addicts back into the work and home sphere.
The pair are hoping to secure a premise on Forrest Avenue by Christmas with the opening due late January.
