WA shooters tackle open championships in Bunbury

Bunbury played host to 50 of the state’s top marksmen and women over the Easter long weekend as they competed in the South West District Rifle Association’s open championships. 

Competitors engaged in 10 separate matches over three days with distances ranging from 300 metres to 900 metres. 

A number of shooting disciplines were contested including target rifle where entrants shot from a prone position with open sights, to various divisions of F class were rifles are supported with a front and rear rest and sighing it achieved with a telescope mounted on the rifle. 

The Target Rifle was dominated by the Goldfield's shooter John Moore while the F class sections were won by Mal Hamilton from South Perth and Rod Rees from Beverley.

The service rifle competition was taken out by Busselton's Jack Nixon.

Busselton shooters Ken Sue and Dave Baster were both awarded SWDRA life membership while Sue also received his WA Rifle Association 50 year membership certificate.
