Current Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan has announced he will recontest the City of Bunbury Mayoral election in October.
Mr Brennan said he was keen to ensure a raft of current projects were completed and new ideas continue to be fostered.
“Our city is thriving, we have a range of exciting projects about to begin and others underway that I want to continue to guide,” he said.
“Things are moving in Bunbury, we are amid a revitalisation and that’s what I am most proud of.
“In almost four years as Mayor I’ve been lucky to liaise with a lot of vibrant members of our community to hear ideas and help to shape those concepts into something tangible.
Mayor Brennan said he’s proud of what has been accomplished during his time as Mayor.
“When I walk down the street, I see ReDiscover artwork on buildings, shipping containers outside cafes, sidewalk dining and small bars,” he said.
“We’ve seen some huge new State and Federal investments in our City and investor confidence is high.
“With the State Government-funded Bunbury Waterfront Project now underway, we’ve got a lot more to look forward to but we have to keep supporting that progress.”
Mr Brennan said the City of Bunbury was now seeking a new CEO following the relocation of Andrew Brien to Perth. As a former CEO of four councils and chief of staff to the Minister for Local Government, he was hopeful of applying his expertise to that important task.
“This year the job at hand will be finding a new CEO for the City and I hope to be a part of that.”
The Mayor said he believed local governments needed to reduce the red tape and bureaucracy to ensure opportunities are not missed, the environment is protected and residents and businesses alike are supported.
“For me it’s about listening to ideas, keeping my mind open and trying to improve communications with our community.
“For this reason I’ve been pleased by the City of Bunbury’s renewed focus on community engagement, seeking out opinions through social media and public forums. Change should always be community-driven.”
Mr Brennan highlighted that the support and encouragement of his wife Robyn and his family are of key importance in offering himself for a further term as Mayor.
