If you’ve lived in or even spent time in Bunbury in recent years, chances are you’ve heard of Exit Nightclub.
You might even have a few hazy memories from the South West’s iconic local night spot.
But those memories may be long gone now, with the nightclub announcing on Facebook today its immediate and indefinite closure.
“Indefinitely closed – Exit will no longer be trading until further notice,” the post read.
“It is with sadness we are announcing an indefinite closure of the South West's most iconic nightclub venue.
“Some of the staff have been here for years and we are all devastated we have lost everything we worked and sacrificed for to keep alive. We thank our regular crew for their support over the years, we wouldn't have survived this long without you.”
The nightclub blamed the poor economy and a bad, unshakable reputation within the community for their closure.
“The town of Bunbury has just not been able to sustain a nightclub; the negative public opinion for the lifetime of the club’s operation and poor local economy have been major contributors to this,” it continued.
“We are hoping the business is quickly moved onto someone that will continue a forward thinking attitude and re-energises the club to provide the town with a quality service it needs.
“Goodbye – Exit Fam.”
The post comes after the club was closed over the weekend, management promising over social media to “update you all VIA the FaceBook page” in regards to the matter.
Hundreds of people have taken to the status to tag their friends and alert them of changes to their weekend plans, with the post being shared dozens of times and pulling in many ‘sad reacts’ within just an hour of being posted.
Staff wrote that they are hoping the club can re-open within the next few weeks.
