SBL 2017: Ty Harrelson makes a surprise return to the Slammers

There was an exciting buzz at Eaton Recreation Centre with the unexpected return of former player and coach Ty Harrelson in a Slammers jersey. 

The Tigers have been rampant in 2017 and led for most of the first term including a four point advantage at quarter time. By the main break, the Slammers had established a four point lead of their own. 

In the back half of the match, Ray Turner (34 points) and Jay Bowie (32 points) began to score freely and helped their side run out 99-92 point victors.

For the Slammers, Voelkel scored 25 points and racked up 17 rebounds while Nichols added 20 points and Teny Puot shot 14. 

On Sunday, the Slammers travelled to Perth to take on Lakeside Lightning. 

The Lightning led by five points at the first change and stretched the margin out to nine points at the main break. 

The margin grew to 12 early in the third term before the Slammers started to find some rhythm. 

Tre Nichols, Clive Weeden and Brian Voelkel all started to have a bigger influence as the Slammers shot 30 points to 18 in the third term to hold a three point advantage at the final change. 

Another 30 points in the final term helped the Slammers run out 106-93 point winners. 

Voelkel finished with a triple-double (17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists) while Nichols scored 33 points and Weeden added 22. 

For Lakeside, James Padgett scored 34 points. 

On Monday the South West Slammers kicked off a three day school holiday basketball clinic at Leschenault Leisure Centre with Tre Nichols among a number of senior players helping to mould the next generation of Bunbury basketball stars. 

This Saturday, the South West Slammers host the Stirling Senators at Eaton Recreation Centre with the women playing at 6pm and the men playing at 8pm.
