A new High Tea short course at South Regional TAFE is sparking interest from passionate foodies and those with a sweet tooth.
For those who love nothing more than sitting with friends or family for an afternoon of bite-sized cakes, scones, sandwiches, tea and coffee, this course is calling them.
Participants of this short course will learn how to make beautifully presented macaroons, profiteroles, layered gateaux and cake pops as well as a variety of ways to present their creations, including a completely gluten free platter.
South Regional TAFE runs a variety of flexible short courses enabling local people to update their skills or learn new ones. These skills help people with their job development, a career change or a hobby they are passionate about.
The latest round of short courses offers some creative options for those who want to follow their passion, including welding and digital photography.
High Tea short course lecturer Gaye Wise believes a high tea can help make any event a special occasion as it brings out our inner child.
Ms Wise is a qualified chef who has a background in producing cakes and pastries for restaurants, including The Goose in Busselton, and for events.
“A high tea is something that you can enjoy with your nanna, your children or your friends,” Gaye said.
“There is just something special about the bright colours and elegance of a high tea that makes everything seem more exciting and fun.”
Ms Wise said while many people enjoyed baking, this course would give participants the edge as they’ll learn all the tips and tricks of the trade to bake, shape and glaze their creations.
“The aim of this short course is to have fun while learning,” she said.
“It’s also a great way to get a taster for the College’s patisserie courses.”
The courses, titled ‘producing cakes’ and ‘using hygienic practices for food safety’ start on August 14 and run on Monday from 4pm to 9pm for six weeks.
