It's a blend made in heaven for wine lovers and the Swan Valley and one they hope will age well.
Uber has teamed with the wine region, just 20km from Perth, to offer small groups use of the travel service to taste their way through more than 40 cellar doors, breweries, distilleries and providores in the region that produces wine from WA's oldest vines.
UberVINO launched in Perth on Friday and promises an easier and cheaper option for people wanting to go wine tasting through the Swan Valley.
Sandalford CEO Grant Brinklow said although the Valley was probably the closest wine region to its capital city of any in the world, it was difficult getting around the wineries once you were here.
"There is no public transport in the region, which is pretty strange considering the Swan Valley loop is 32km long," he said.
"So I'm certain this Uber initiative will have huge appeal to many people who want a fantastic experience without having to worry about the affordability of it."
Booking an UberVINO ride to the Swan Valley generates a $40 flat fee, with groups able to visit whatever wineries and other Swan Valley attractions they like.
Once you've finished tasting at your first winery, simply jump back into your waiting Uber and they will take you to the next one.
Uber's wine tasting service is calculated at $40 per hour, with a minimum fare of $60... so a one-hour round-trip and two hours of wine tasting would cost you $120.
Uber's WA general manager Tom White said the service would run initially in October from 10am to 3pm daily but could continue through spring and even summer if popular.
Other popular wine tourism regions, like Margaret River and the Great Southern, could be next on Uber's radar.
"While we don't have any current plans ... we're always looking at opportunities to bring the benefits of ridesharing to new regional areas," Mr White said.
City of Swan mayor Mick Wainwright said UberVINO was an innovative way for visitors to enjoy the Swan Valley.
"We're confident it will have a positive economic impact on the Swan Valley," he said.
How the UberVINO app works:
1. Enter the address of the first winery you would like to visit in the Swan Valley.
2. Select uberVINO and request a ride between 10am and 3pm, seven days a week during October and the first available driver will pick you up and take you to your winery.
3. When you are nearly done at the first winery, call or text your driver using the Uber app; they will be waiting for you in the carpark.
4. Enter a new Swan Valley winery into your app and your driver will be automatically updated with your next destination.
5. Your driver will end the trip at your request.
