College Grove residents Vic and Celine Searle have expressed their excitement for winning the 2017/18 Rates Prize Draw.
The couple was presented with a $2000 cheque, and met with City of Bunbury and Commonwealth Bank representatives, at the council meeting on Tuesday, October 17.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan congratulated the couple in front of councillors, council representatives and guests in attendance.
Mr Searle said the news took the couple by surprise.
“Like most people, you don’t anticipate being the one that’s going to be picked for the first prize,” he said.
“I guess there is always the attitude that you’re in with a chance...that’s life, isn’t it?”
The couple said the draw provided a major incentive for people to pay their rates early.
Mr Searle revealed they would put the money towards a project to help those less fortunate.
According to the City of Bunbury, all residents who pay their rates ahead of the due date are put into the draw for the $2000 prize.
