Bunbury’s Colleen Seymour has been named as the winner of the 2017 Aqwest National Water Week competition, taking home a water-saving, front load washing machine.
Aqwest acting chairman Neville Eastman drew Ms Seymour’s winning coupon from 263 entries.
The second prize of a 41 litre esky went to Ros Piggott while Mark Wilcox won a cooler for the third prize.
It is the seventh year that Aqwest has given away an energy efficient, water saving washing machine to promote national water week from October 15 to 21.
This year, as part of an education campaign to encourage people to read their meters, people were asked to include their water meter reading on their entry coupon.
"The competition receives a fantastic response each year, while promoting the importance of water conservation by giving away a waterwise appliance that can save water and reduce customers' water bills," said Mr Eastman.
"It is particularly pleasing that people read their water meters as part of the competition and hopefully they will keep it up.
"Hidden leaks often go undetected until people receive their water bills and they get a shock when they are suddenly faced with a very large bill to pay.
“By getting to know your water usage, you can very easily tell when meter numbers suddenly increase, which could indicate a hidden leak."
Ms Seymour said her current washing machine was more than 10 years old and she was waiting for it to break down.
“I can never afford anything new and it’s the first time I have won something so big,” she said.
