Glen Huon Primary School in Eaton celebrated 10 years enrolled in Water Corporation’s waterwise schools program at a special assembly on Thursday.
As part of the program, teachers at the school have been educating students on the need to value, protect and conserve water resources for a decade.
Water Corporation acting South West regional manager Nicky Waite thanked the school for sharing the waterwise message.
“Climate change continues to impact water supplies across the South West, so it’s important the next generation understands where their water comes from and why it needs to be used wisely,” Ms Waite said.
“We supply our customers in Eaton and Australind, including Glen Huon Primary School, with water sourced from the deep Yarragadee Aquifer.
“Every drop of water from this precious resource needs to be used wisely, so it’s great to see teachers and students at Glen Huon Primary School sharing this message for a decade.”
Glen Huon Primary School’s Principal Carolyn Nankervis said the school aimed to raise an awareness of water conservation and management.
“As a result of an ongoing commitment to sustainable practices and a major focus on the value of our water supply and initiatives to reduce our water consumption, our collaborative efforts resulted in heightened awareness of waterwise practices and celebration of a significant reduction in our water usage,” Mrs Nankervis said.
“Our waterwise initiatives have been embedded and ongoing for an impressive 10 years.”
