West Coast Fireworks’s manager and lead pyrotechnician has been recognised for her tireless efforts in the field.
At age 14, Ms Mills began an apprenticeship on the weekends at West Coast Fireworks with her uncle, Ken Boyland.
Her experience paid off, with Ms Mills promoted to the lead pyrotechnician and manager positions months after graduating from high school.
She hopes to showcase her work and the efforts of women in the industry.
Hannah Mills liaises with event organizers, creates invoices, compiles risk assessment site maps, gathers relevant information for show operators and develops packing lists for each show.
She also regularly attends events and heads-up fireworks displays.
Ms Mills was recently nominated for the 2017 Telstra Young Business Women’s Award.
Her advice for young women is: “just don’t be afraid to go out and try it, the worst that people are going to say is ‘no’.”
“You’ve just got to remember that success isn’t achieved overnight but it doesn’t mean to say that you’re not making ground in the meantime, just go out there and take the bull by the horns”.
