Round three of the 2017 Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association season saw Leschenault and Dayellup Beach both open their accounts with resounding victories.
The Green Caps won the toss and elected to bat in their away match against Collie.
A number of Leschenault’s players spent time at the crease as the side amassed 9/205. Chief among the run scorers were Tom Buchanan (28), Kurt D’Agostino (29), James Letchford (20), Josh Grime (32) and Nick Webb (20 not out).
With the ball, Collie’s Steven Ireland had 3/42 while Mark Williams took 3/43.
Collie’s run chase started solidly with opener Tom Plummer making 28 while Williams (14), Austin Kent (24) and Greg Tomasini (34) added valuable runs in the middle order.
Then disaster struck with the final five on Collie’s card sent packing without a run between them. The board rapidly went from 5/118 to 120 all out in what was a disappointing end to the clash for the homeside.
Marist were no match for Dalyellup Beach, electing to bat and posting 133.
Opener Cory Fitt knocked a nice 50 before being stumped while Adam Spinelli (22) and Alan Utterson (20) chimed in with runs further down the order.
Liam Renton took 3/28 with the ball while Rodney Shemeld took 3/38.
Marist had about as much luck with the ball as they did with the bat.
Shemeld was caught and bowled on 34 while fellow opener Corey Fagan blasted 85 from 74 balls with 16 boundaries. Justin Woods finished on 11 not out as the Settlers recorded a nine wicket win.
Eaton also kept their strong start to the year going with a comfortable win over Hay Park. The Redbacks chose to bat and Charlie Home chewed through 10 balls before being caught for a duck while opening partner Jono Whitney made 20.
Ashley Sbizzirri was trapped infront first ball giving Jarred Edwards a hat-trick ball that Martyn Foster survived. Foster went on to make 23 while Reon Tither added 16 late as Hay Park were dismissed for 100 runs.
With the ball, Clayton Caltsounis did the early damage to have 3/12 while Matt Foreman (3/4) cleaned up the tail cheaply.
After the break, Eaton reached the target for the fall of two thanks to Matt Davies (43 not out), Don Seaman (28) and James Hillery (22 not out).
