A new collaborative of leadership specialists has formed to help uncover and grow aspiring leaders within the South West.
The Leadership Collaborative is an initiative driven by a group of passionate leaders and specialist facilitators from diverse backgrounds. All are keen to support developing a culture of leadership across the South West.
Leadership Collaborative’s Bernadette Durrell said the South West played host to a range of very talented leaders, many of them unsung heroes in their communities and spheres of influence.
“Good leadership is such a critical foundation for any organisation or community,” Ms Durrell said.
“There are so many wonderful leaders in the South West working in businesses, community groups, not for profits and generally within the community. Many of the unheralded.”
“Our aim is simple – to raise the profile and develop a culture of leadership in the community.”
Ms Durrell works with leaders on a daily basis through her role as a specialist facilitator and coach with Bunbury based consultancy management company IPS.
Denise House from Prothink Solutions said identifying and supporting local leaders to develop their skills produced a range of benefits for the wider community.
“My involvement is to do what I enjoy doing,” Ms House said.
“Our aim is to work with businesses and local leaders to continue to grow, inspire, share and immediately use leadership skills on a day to day basis in and out of work.”
Mindful Edge Training’s Merinda Smith said encouraging and growing leadership at a personal level was the first step in creating a leadership culture in the community.
“Assisting others in their leadership journey is about growing themselves, only then can they grow others,” Ms Smith said.
The Leadership Collaborative plans a range of initiatives to highlight and promote leadership in the South West.
Among them is the Leaders Among Us series, a set of online interviews highlighting some of the region’s quiet achievers in the leadership arena.

Along with raising the profile of leadership, the Leadership Collaborative plans to offer a range of new programs and workshops to small businesses, the not-for-profit and private sectors.
The group is keen to hear from other leaders keen to raise the profile of leadership in the community.
