After months of construction the South West community were given their first-look at the redeveloped Koombana Bay foreshore.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan, Member for Bunbury Don Punch MLA, and Bunbury councillors were also given a tour on December 22.
“Bunbury’s greatest asset is its waterfront and Bunbury is coming into its own now, you look out at the view and it’s equal to anything you’d find in Western Australia, if not better,” Mr Punch said.
Koombana Bay project officer Phillip Rowley discussed the foreshore’s newly-developed playground with Nature Play design, benches, barbecue areas, kiosk, and amphitheatre and said the area was designed for wheelchair accessibility.
Solar panels were built into the shading to place electricity back into the grid.
“This is a terrific indication that people love visiting and recreating in this area – it’s the start of our Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project which is a significant project for Bunbury,” Mr Brennan said.
South West Development Commission assistant director of infrastructure Ashley Clements said the project saw all agencies work together to achieve the right outcome for the community.
Koombana Foreshore will play host to the Beach Games, state and national volleyball tournaments, live music events and the Bunbury Beer and Cider Festival in the first half of 2018.
Further work on the Dolphin Discovery Centre, Koombana North and Casuarina Drive are scheduled for 2018.
