The City of Bunbury has agreed to improve one of the CBD’s most troubling areas for road users.
The council voted in favour of modifying the intersection of Spencer Street and Cornwall Street at its final meeting for 2017.
The plan was designed to prevent people from turning right from Cornwall Street onto Spencer Street, towards Stirling Street.
The motion also put forward the idea to improve visibility in the intersection.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said the proposal would deliver much-needed changes to the intersection.
“Traffic congestion will continue to mount so our primary concern is safety and we have to be responsible for the road networks within our city,” he said.
“We’re getting more traffic into our city but we have to modify intersections as we go along.”
Mr Brennan, however, said installing traffic lights was not an option as council wished to maintain traffic flow in the area.
