A 66-year-old woman has been left in a critical condition in hospital after a firework blew up in her face during celebrations in Bunbury overnight.
The incident occurred during the fireworks display at Bunbury Trotting Club in Carey Park at about 11.24pm.
It is understood the woman, an employee of Perth's Cardile Fireworks, was handling the fireworks when they exploded in her face.
A rescue helicopter airlifted the woman to Royal Perth Hospital where she remains in intensive care.
Cardile Fireworks managing director Rob Cardile did not wish to comment on the accident.
Worksafe is investigating the matter.
