Performer turned sky-diver and now TV presenter and producer Emmylou MacCarthy is gearing up for a massive 2018 after making it her goal to end up on the Logies red carpet.
The mum of three was raised in Bunbury with her family remaining in the town she still calls home.
“I’m an old school bunno chick, I was part of the Johnny Young Talent troupes, I worked at Benesse through high school and I went to Adam Road Primary School and Newton Moore Senior High School,” she said.
“There were always those thoughts and dreams of doing musical theatre but I don’t think I had the focus – growing up in a small town I didn’t know what it meant and I didn’t know what it entailed.
“I only started this campaign not even two years ago and I have worked ridiculously hard.”
What began as a pipeline dream slowly evolved into a TV presenting career for the determined rising star.
“I did a video on fashion styling in Melbourne and it started from there and I decided lets make the Logies a goal,” she said.
“I remember writing Logies 2018 on a scrap piece of paper – it didn’t mean I’m going to win one, or be invited, it just meant that I’m working towards being in the media as my career.
“I went and did a charity event, called it Dot Com Social, raised $3000 for an amazing charity in Melbourne and sold out, 150 people, a panel of three amazing social media influencers.”
Ms MacCarthy was approached by the head of production at Channel 31 who had filmed the event and asked her if she wanted her own TV show on the free-to-air community channel.
“All of a sudden I became the executive producer and host, they gave me a live TV show and that’s how Dot Com Social got started,” she said.
“It’s still a dream but we’re closer now than ever.
“My publicist is now in contact with the PR team taking care of the Logies so now it’s a matter of accreditation and getting me across the line and hoping there is room for me on the Red Carpet.
“I think I’m going to be in a little bit of shock if I get there and so grateful for all the support I’ve been given.”
