Two cricketers from the Greater Bunbury region got the chance to bat, bowl and field while representing their state last month.
Jonah Lincoln from Bunbury and Cooper Dehring from Eaton played for Western Australia’s 12 Years and Under Boys side in the School Sport Australia Cricket Championships.
Held in Barooga, New South Wales, the nine-day tournament saw Lincoln and Dehring play five games and participate alongside cricketers from across WA.
The WA side came third overall.
From the five games, Lincoln knocked 85 runs while Dehring notched up 46.
Lincoln was proud to serve as an opening batsman for the School Sports WA side.
His cricket career began with backyard cricket, before taking on Milo In2Cricket at three.
The 12-year-old has soared since then, playing for Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, Bunbury, Rockingham-Mandurah and Cricket South West.
“You’re always in the game, you always have to be switched on, and I like the training as well,” he said.

Dehring played as state side’s wicketkeeper during the tournament.
The cricketer also picked up the bat and ball at a young age.
“When I was about three or four my dad, brother and uncle played cricket,” he said.
“I went and saw one of my dad’s grand finals and that’s how I started.”
The 12-year-old’s cricketing journey has already seen him play for Eaton, Wellington, Marist, Rockingham-Mandurah and Bunbury.
Dehring enjoyed the challenge of taking on cricketers of different ages.
Lincoln and Dehring thanked their families for their support during the tournament.
The pair said anyone interested in cricket should give it a go.
“Just keep working at it, you can dream big with cricket,” Lincoln said.
School Sport WA has encouraged active participation since its establishment 1909.
The organisation now coordinates 42 state teams, featuring public and private school students, annually.
