Some of the region’s youngest athletes have dusted off the trainers and hit the track for the Bunbury Runners Club’s junior program.
The group held its first session on Thursday, February 1.
Paralympian Brad Scott and Bunbury Runners Club junior coach Cara Van Schalkwyk are leading the sessions, held every Thursday from 4.30pm at Bunbury Recreation Ground.
Van Schalkwyk said the athletes would participate in running exercises each week before completing a five kilometre run at the end of term one.
“We base it on fun, drills and technique,” she said.
“It’s a lot of fun and involves a lot of fitness, anyone can join and we encourage people to join.
“It’s about the enjoyment of sport and about being active.”
President Keith Yardley said the group provided interaction between private and public schools students from across the district.
The group ranges from athletes six to 17.
