Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre’s Board of Directors has appointed Fiona de Garis as Executive Director effective April 2018.
Ms de Garis succeeds BREC’s current Executive Director, Sharon Custers, who announced her desire to step down from her role late last year.
BREC Chairman Simon Jacob said Ms de Garis was perfect for the role.
“Fiona was chosen after an extensive and extremely competitive selection process,” he said.
“She stood out from the other candidates because of her depth of experience working with artists both nationally and internationally, including working with many of West Australia’s leading arts organisations including the Perth International Arts Festival.”
Ms de Garis is currently Senior Producer at Performing Lines WA and serves on the Board of Circuitwest.
Earlier this year, she was selected for the Australia Council’s Arts Leadership Program.
Commenting on the appointment, Ms de Garis said she was thrilled to be joining BREC’s team.
“I share their vision for Bunbury as a dynamic and resilient city where artists and creative professionals seek to live and work,” she said.
“BREC provides the South West with award winning programs and facilities, and I am looking forward to collaborating with local artists and touring companies to further enrich the cultural life of the community.”
With over 25 years’ experience, Ms de Garis is renowned in the Australian Performing Arts industry for her work in developing independent West Australian artists.
Ms de Garis will relocate from Perth to Bunbury in April to take up the position.
