A surprise loss to fifth-placed Leschenault cost Marist top spot on the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association A-grade ladder after the final round of fixtures on the weekend.
Marist was sent in to bat at Forrest Park North on Saturday and was dismissed for 136, with only Kyle Davis (21) and Joshua Vague (24) spending any real time at the crease.
Brody D’Agostino had the best figures for Leschenault, with 2-18, while Nick Webb, Jarrad Quinn and Michael Newman also grabbed two wickets apiece.
In reply, Leschenault cruised to victory with four wickets to spare. Opener Riley Italiano set the tone for the innings with 35 before an unbroken 77-run partnership from Thomas Buchanan (35) and Quinn (45) saw the Green Caps home.
Leschenault then backed up on the Sunday with a crushing victory over Collie.
The star of the show was Nic Rep, whose 124no came from just 131 balls and included 12 fours and seven sixes. He was ably supported by Buchanan, who made 60, as Leschenault smashed its way to a total of 6/264 in its 50 overs.
Collie was routed for 129, in reply. Matthew Tanner made 39 and Greg Tomasini 25, but the visitors were never in the hunt.
The victory still left Leschenault outside the top four, despite fourth-placed Colts being beaten by Eaton on Saturday.
Colts batted first in the match at Eaton Sports Ground, making a competitive total of 165 on the back of Cruize Cialllella’s 45no and 33 runs from the evergreen Murray Goodwin. Don Seaman had the outstanding figures of 4/5 from his six overs, while Steven Barron took 4/29.
But it was all too easy for Eaton. The home side reached the target after just 35 overs, securing top spot and home ground advantage in the first week of finals.
Opener Matthew Davies made 55no, while James Hillery hit three towering sixes in his total of 43 and Clayton Caltsounis hung around to make 36no and steer Eaton to victory. Joe Barningham took two wickets for Colts.
In the other match, Dalyellup Beach wrapped up third place on the ladder with victory over Hay Park in a high-scoring encounter. Hay Park chose to bat first and was dismissed in a little over 40 overs for 211, with the prolific Jono Whitney making 103 runs from 60 balls at the top of the order.
Martyn Foster also chimed in with 20 runs, while Rodney Shemeld’s 4/50 made him the pick of the Dalyellyup Beach bowlers.
But Steve Denison’s 111 from 109 balls helped Dalyellup Beach reach the victory target with four wicks in hand. Denison was well supported by Dillen Watson, who was run out for 56.
Eaton will now play host to Marist in a semi final on Saturday, while Colts will travel to Dalyellup College for the other semi final match-up against Dalyellup Beach.
