The Bunbury Men’s Vets’ side eclipsed its competition to take home the 2018 WA Country Championship title.
The team played a tough clash against Geraldton on March 5, coming out 35 to 29 victors.
The Bunbury side led from the outset and fought off a comeback from Geraldton in the second half.
Brad Hawkins impressed with nine points, while Sam Fotu and Damien Chalk shot two three-pointers each.
Meanwhile, the Bunbury Men’s Championship side suffered a four point loss to Albany in their grand final.
Bunbury and Albany remained close throughout the clash, with one point separating both sides late in the fourth quarter.
Albany’s John Santia clinched three points close to full time, leading to a 50 to 46 victory.
Bunbury’s Jay Walton (14) shot two three-pointers, while Anton Fimmano (9) and Carey Watkins (8) were also effective.
Australind’s Women’s Championship side finished fourth on the ladder – behind Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Albany – after six rounds.
In the Women’s Division Four competition, efforts from Jodie Clayton (7) and Jen Maaka (6) could not stop Northam’s 27 to 22 grand final win.
Out of the 19 teams representing Bunbury in this year’s WA Country Championships, seven won in grand final games.
