Afra Chance ($3.10) took out the Skyracing.TV Provincial Championship Series Heat during the final meet of Bunbury Turf Club 2017/18 season.
Running in one of the day’s final races, the race favourite – led by rider Jason Whiting – was in front from the outset.
In first place at the final turn, the bay gelding crossed the finish line one-and-a-half lengths in front of Light the Fuse and two lengths ahead of Gradual Incline.
Earlier in the day, Trainers Daniel and Ben Pearce celebrated impressive results in the 1690-metre Amelia Park Handicap.
Led by Jarrad Noske, Let’s Twist ($3.50) settled in first place and remained in front past the 800m mark and the final turn.
The five-year-old brown mare helped to clinch the $11,210 first prize.
Clear race favourite Racy Ava ($1.80) finished second by a short neck behind Let’s Twist.
New Zealand’s Dr Sykes finished two-and-a-quarter lengths behind the winner.
In the Harradine and Associates Vets Maiden, jockey Mitchell Pateman pushed Palace Rogue ($7) first across the line.
The Darren McCauliffe-trained brown gelding settled in third place before moving up to second by the 800m mark.
Palace Rogue eclipsed race favourite Montagna ($2.15) by one length.
