The sun was shining for the second Great South West Bed Race which was held on Saturday, April 7.
The event raises funds for St John of God Bunbury Hospital Cancer and Cardiac Services in the South West, with teams of four, plus a bed bug and two subs giving a $2,000 entry fee.
There were 13 teams that entered with each taking the dressing up side of the event very seriously.
The Freudian Slips from the South West Community Alcohol and Drug Service team took away the best costume prize.
The most entertaining team went to the Woolworths Witchdoctors.
Teams then showed off their fancy beds with a parade around Bunbury’s CBD.
It was then time for a group of local chief executive officers to jump on a hospital bed for the CEO sprint.
The sprint was set up to be a challenge with runners competing next to each other while spectators through water balloons at the CEOs.
The Bunbury Surf Life Saving team won the sprint with the St John of God Bunbury chief executive Mark Grimes on the bed.
Once everyone recovered from the sprint, it was time for the big race.
The race involved teams running a 2.3km loop and were able to admire some Bunbury’s best scenery.
With a time of nine minutes and 24 seconds, the Chemo Crusaders were first over the line.
Second place went to the 2017 reigning champions Manea Superior Vena Cava.
Third place went to the Hit Squad from Hit FM.
