Australia's leading museum for the moving image will be given a $31.6 million boost in the Victorian budget next month.
The funds will support the largest upgrade of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in its 16-year history, Creative Industries Minister Martin Foley said on Wednesday.
The funding is in addition to $5 million already allocated by the state government, and $5 million in philanthropic donations.
The cash will be used to revamp the centre's permanent exhibition, provide cutting-edge technology and educational programs.
"With revamped exhibitions and ground-breaking new technology for visitors to enjoy, the new look ACMI will be bigger, better and bolder," Mr Foley said.
"It will completely renew and refresh ACMI."
ACMI chief executive Katrina Sedgwick said it would transform the centre into a "leading global museum of the 21st century".
Visitor numbers are expected to increase by half, to about two million a year.
About 100 jobs will be created during construction, due to finish late next year.
