An impressive turn out of community members made the removal of rubbish from the Bussell Highway reserve a success.
A group of more than 20 people from Dalyellup, Gelorup, Stratham and Capel came together on Sunday, April 15 to collect rubbish from the bushland between Harewoods Road and Lakes Road.
Volunteer Brett Cox said he was impressed by the enthusiasm of those involved and was amazed just how quickly the team worked to remove a huge volume of rubbish.
“We had two nine cubic metre skip bins, provided by the Shire of Capel, which were both filled to capacity with other bulky items amounting to at least another bin piled nearby,” he said.
“There is still enough rubbish within the reserve itself to fill one or two more bins, but that will have to wait until we can organise another collection.
“We also found a current Medicare card and an old bank card, which will be handed over to authorities – hopefully someone will have to explain why they were found amongst illegally dumped rubbish.”
President of the Capel Land Conservation District Committee Sandie Manly praised the efforts of the individuals present and expressed her thanks to the Shire of Capel, The Keep Australia Beautiful Council and Capel Skip Bin Hire for their assistance in the project.
Items removed included general household rubbish, old furniture and household appliances, car parts and insulated cable.
