One of Bunbury’s most celebrated military history researchers will provide valuable information to those visiting Bunbury Cemetery this Anzac Day.
The campaign, entitled Anzac Heroes – Celebrate Their Lives and Honour Their Service, will see Jeff Peirce greet visitors at the entrance of the cemetery off Forrest Avenue East from 9am to 5pm next Wednesday.
As part of the campaign, the historian will check for each war service ancestor via his website bunburywarheroes.com.au.
He will then show visitors to the service personnel’s burial site, if needed, and will help people to start their own research into the war service history of their family members.
Mr Peirce said the campaign was designed to commemorate the personnel who went from Bunbury to serve in World War I.
Mr Peirce said visitors’ vehicles will be able to be driven to the vicinity of the army, navy, air force and nurses’ burial sites.
The researcher was a finalist in the 2014 Australian of the Year – WA Local Hero category for his efforts.
Mr Peirce’s websites – documenting the identification and histories of Bunbury servicemen and women – are:
