A high tea to celebrate mums and raise funds for the Cancer Council will be held this Mothers Day.
Relay for Life team United as One will host the fundraiser in the lead up to the 24 hour event in November.
The group is looking forward to hosting the Mothers Day High Tea, offering an afternoon of fun, food and laughter with a glass of champagne on arrival, raffles and a silent auction.
Team captain Tammie Kirk said Relay for Life had become an important day for her and her family.
“We started Relay for Life in 2013 after my dad was diagnosed with cancer and so we thought we need to get some sort of awareness for it because it was a rare cancer,” she said.
“It’s basically my family, I’ve got three sisters and my daughter and son are part of it too and we rope friends in.
“Dad passed away 18 months after being diagnosed so October, 2014, so that’s my drive to get awareness out there – my mum is really proud of us and she says our dad would be proud too.
“We set a goal of $2,000 each years and we always smash it – we’re just a little team with a big heart.”
Team member Frances Garrigan said she originally came on board to support before Relay for Life took on new meaning for her and her own family.
“In 2015 my nanna was diagnosed with bowel cancer and in March 2016, she passed away,” she said.
“That really hit home, so I do this to help out and make a difference.”
