South West Phoenix Firebirds made it four wins from four with a 9-1 demolition of Perth Soccer Club on Sunday.
The win keeps Firebirds three points clear on top of the ladder ahead of a difficult trip to Northern Redbacks this week.
Firebirds went into the game expecting a tough match after Perth had opened their season with two wins from three matches.
However, the Firebirds took control early, with Jen Hazledon, Jordan Sheedy and Katie McDermott completely dominating the centre of midfield.
It was no real surprise when Firebirds took the lead quarter of an hour in when Skye Dalton scored with a fine long range effort.
Eleanor Coventry added two goals before the half hour mark as Firebirds continued in the ascendancy.
Courtney Butlion, returning from injury, added another before Coventry got her third to make it 5-0 at half time.
This was Coventry’s fourth hat trick in a row-a club record for a male or female player at senior level.
Firebirds added four second half goals, with Coventry, Butlion, Dalton and Captain Lucy Scott all scoring one goal each, offset by Perth scoring their only goal.
The huge win is a boost to Firebirds goal difference, but the overall performance was very pleasing to Coach Stephen Suttie.
“The result far exceeded our expectations before the game. We completely dominated centre midfield and that helped us control the game,” he said.
“The team is developing well and we played exactly the style of soccer that we set out to play. Now we regroup and get ready for the next challenge.”
Firebirds remain top after four rounds and are away to Northern Redbacks this Sunday.
