One of Bunbury's toughest sporting clubs is on the lookout for new participants.
Bunbury Roller Derby is holding a ‘Fresh Meat’ intake session at The Rink on Gibbons Road, Bunbury from 6.30pm on May 3.
Jesse “Rukus” Mantach signed up in 2014 and has competed for the group ever since.
Mantach was elected president of Bunbury Roller Derby in late 2017.
She said the club provided a fun, friendly atmosphere for new participants through to Senior competitors.
“It’s a learning process from Fresh Meat up until Senior level, which is a Level Four,” she said.
“We all take it seriously but, at the end of the day, all have fun because we love doing it.
“We have a family-type relationship, I look at them as my teammates and as my family.
“We’ve got really strong, individual, and confident women that are great assets to the community.”
Mantach said each session focuses on safety measures and essential skills.
The Senior girls train at Eaton Recreation Centre on Monday nights, preparing for upcoming events including the annual Boom State Clash.
In June, the group will compete in The Great Southern Slam in Adelaide.
The competition, featuring Australian and New Zealand teams, is heralded as the world’s biggest roller derby event.
When they aren’t on the rink, the group continually fundraises to cover ongoing costs.
