The South West Slammers’ men’s side has gone from strength to strength within the past two rounds of the 2018 State Basketball League season.
Coming off their first win of the season against Cockburn Cougars, the Slammers were looking for their second against Goldfields Giants.
Slammers Travis Durnin (26 points) and new import Brandon Thompson (35) put their side firmly in front in the first quarter.
Goldfields player Jake Martin (earning a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds) kept his side in the contest.
After leading by nine at quarter time, the Slammers remained in front in the second thanks to accurate shooting from Clive Harvey-Weeden (10) and Brian Voelkel (nabbing a triple-double with 10 points, 14 assists and a whopping 25 rebounds).
The visitors maintained a 20-25 point buffer throughout the third term, while the Giants failed to keep up.
Giants Kyle Sovine (collecting a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds), Brandon Holloway (20), Jeylyn Sharpe (18) were composed throughout the game.
However, Tom Harper (9) and the Slammers did enough in the fourth to deliver a 100 to 78 result.
The Slammers will face Perry Lakes Hawks at Eaton Recreation Centre this Sunday afternoon.
