The 2018 ECU Souwest Jets’ sides are preparing for a fun and furious season of netball.
The Jets’ league side will open their 2018 West Australian Netball League campaign against the Rangers in Eaton on June 8.
The team will then take on the West Coast Warriors on June 15 before going up against the Perth Lions in round three.
Round five will see the Jets clash with the Coastal Sharks on July 3.
Getting the players ready for round one, the teams are working on core fitness during their training sessions.
Souwest Jets’ players Riley Culnane, 17, and Giselle Taylor, 16, have high hopes for the Under 18, reserves and league teams.
“I think we’ll do really well this year. The South West players are going really well and we’ve already had seven players from the region in state teams this year,” Culnane said.
The pair recently represented WA in the Under 17s National Championships in Adelaide.
The State team finished fourth, going down to Queensland in the bronze medal match.
“It was a really tight, close competition,” Taylor said. “We didn’t go as well as we’d hoped but it was a really good experience playing against some of the best in our age group from around Australia.”
Taylor is over the moon after being selected for the U17s national team.
As part of their pre-season schedule, the Jets’ players recently engaged in a training sessions with young hopefuls from the region.
The participants learned more about passing, attacking, defending, and team building manoeuvres.
They also played modified games and scratch matches on the South West Sports Centre’s courts.
“The sessions were designed for building friendships and having a bit fun during the holidays,” Culnane said.
“We go over things that they can put into their game.
“Hopefully, they can use them to get selected for club teams and development teams within their areas of the South West.”
Having gone through similar clinics, Culnane and Taylor enjoyed helping the younger players.
