Festival-goers from all over Western Australia converged on Bunbury for the 2018 Groovin the Moo extravaganza.
The Triple J Cattleyard hosted Arno Faraji, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Good Dogs during the morning.
As the crowd grew larger, Ocean Alley, Baker Boy, Skeggs and Dean Lewis provided entertainment in the afternoon.
Fans exploded when American act Portugal. The Man (known for ‘Feel It Still’) hit the main stage.
The Moolin Rouge attracted its share of talented acts and excited festival-goers.
Following Vera Blue’s dynamic set, Public Service Broadcasting (United Kingdom) and Cosmo’s Midnight kept everyone satisfied.
According to the City of Bunbury, more than 20,000 people from around WA turned out to Saturday’s event.
City of Bunbury manager, people and places Isabell Evans said they were proud to sponsor the festival.
“This has a positive impact on accommodation and the hospitality industry and is an opportunity to showcase Bunbury to visitors from outside of the City,” she said.
“Whilst festival goers are in Bunbury they inject money into the local economy by shopping at Bunbury businesses as well as dining out and sourcing other local products.
“Bunbury accommodation providers enjoyed a surge in bookings for the weekend and the majority of contractors are sourced in Bunbury and GTM is committed to promoting local product.”
According to Tourism Research Australia, Bunbury’s largest market for domestic and international travellers was in the 20 to 30-year-old bracket.
Bunbury Police Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Mal Jones said several people were charged for possessing prohibited drugs, namely cannabis and ecstasy.
He said those caught were summonsed to appear in Bunbury Magistrates Court at a later time.
Sen. Sgt. Jones said six move-on notices were issued. Some of them were later arrested and charged for breaching the notices.
He said Bunbury police were impressed with the festival-goers’ behaviour overall.
