A dominant second-half performance from the Australind women’s reserves team capped off a successful trip to Collie on Sunday.
The Blues looked the stronger team all day but Collie took the lead after 20 minutes when Kirsten Thomson blasted a shot from outside the penalty box past the Blues’ keeper.
However, it was all Australind after that, as the Blues went frustratingly close to equalising at least four times in the next 15 minutes.
The Blues finally got the goal they were looking for on the 40-minute mark when Whitehead played in a nice cross for Van Vugt, who put the ball past Collie keeper Merika Blythe.
Australind put another past the keeper three minutes later but it was called offside, leaving both sides level at half time.
The second half was much of the same as Australind dominated the game, not even giving Collie opportunities to test the keeper.
It took about half an hour for the Blues to break the deadlock but they did so in dramatic fashion. Both Whitehead and Van Vugt scored two goals each in the space of nine minutes to give Australind a well deserved 5-1 win.
The Hay Park men’s division one team also travelled to Collie, but were on the wrong end of a 5-1 scoreline.
Hay Park took the lead after 20 minutes but gave up a quick equaliser, before Collie scored four more in the second half.
Collie’s Mark Tenney was the star with a second-half hat-trick, while Seth Chiellini scored two.
