An information and networking session will be held to give South West businesses the opportunity to offer their services to the construction of the proposed Albemarle Kemerton Plant.

The South West Development Commission and Albemarle Corporation, a leader in the global specialty chemicals industry, have teamed up to give local businesses and subcontractors the chance to learn about the project with the view to tapping into possible future opportunities.

The information session will be held from 5.30pm to 7pm on Wednesday, May 23 at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre.

Albemarle vice president of engineering Edwin Berends and senior members of the Albemarle project delivery team will be on hand to talk about opportunities associated with the construction and operations of the planned lithium hydroxide product manufacturing plant.

South West Development Commission acting chief executive officer Rebecca Ball said the event was the latest in a Commission-initiated series designed to ensure local businesses were considered for contracts.

“The South West has many of the skills and services big companies require when setting up operations in the region,” she said.

“We are grateful to Albemarle for taking the time to meet with local businesses, and hope the event serves as the beginning of new professional relationships.

“We urge local businesses to attend and put themselves forward.”

Attendees will be able to meet the South West Development Commission’s new local content advisor who has been appointed as part of a State Government initiative.

The program was design to ensure local businesses were given the best shot at tendering for government work, while also encouraging bigger businesses to think locally when awarding contracts.

Ms Ball said the group strived to create opportunities for local businesses.

“Part of what we do at the South West Development Commission is seek out opportunities to grow jobs and business in the region,” she said.

“We have organised this event to give local businesses the chance to connect with key decision-makers from Albemarle and to learn about the potential opportunities associated with a potential lithium processing plant being proposed at the Kemerton industrial estate.

“Employees of enterprises setting up in Kemerton can enjoy the attractive lifestyle opportunities that come with living and working within the Bunbury Geographe and wider South West region.”
