The Eaton foreshore boat ramp and jetties are set to receive a face lift thanks to a department of transport grant announced last week.
The Shire of Dardanup was awarded $157,965 to allow two-wheel drive access to the ramp, to extend the western finger jetty and to implement a floating berthing platform
Shire of Dardanup president Mick Bennett said it was fantastic to have been given the grant so that the improvements could be made.
“Now that we know we have the grant, we’ll start planning, which will probably take about 12 months and then we will look at starting something so that’s the plan at this stage,” he said.
“A lot of our locals use this facility so it’ll just improve the service to them in terms of them being able to use it more.
“Part of the repairs will be to have a floating jetty so that we can accomodate for our disabled people to board whether the water is down or whether it’s up a foot higher, it will float up with the tide and sit at the right level for people to move into a boat.”
Mr Bennett said the area was already being well used since the carpark had been put in with the upcoming upgrades adding to the success of the boat ramp.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said upgrading boating facilities would add to the amenity of communities close to WA’s waterways.
