Nathan Buswell and the South West Young Veterans are looking to help former military service personnel living in the Greater Bunbury Region.
Mr Buswell took part in the 80 kilometre Margaret River Ultra Marathon on May 5, raising $1700 overall and raising awareness for veterans affairs.
The 36-year-old thanked Civil Con and JCW Electrical Group for donating $500 each to the cause.
His goal for group has been to draw attention to issues affecting young veterans in the community.
“It’s an outreach forum where they can be amongst guys that understand what they have gone through,” he said.
“They can maybe relate and provide guidance to one another, if they need to.”
Mr Buswell served in the infantry and logistics divisions in the Australian Army.
His 13-year stint included tours of the Solomon Islands, Iraq, and Dubai.
He said many veterans experience mental illness, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder or isolation after returning home from service.
Military veteran and public speaker Ben Aldridge also plays a key role in the group.
