This year’s AFL Women’s National Championships will feature three top-notch players from the Greater Bunbury region.
Ella Smith (South Bunbury vice captain), Tanisha Anderson (Bunbury Bulldogs, East Perth), and Maddie Bedford (Harvey Bulls, Peel Thunderbirds) have been picked to don the WA Under 18s side’s Black and Gold attire.
Smith – also involved in the West Coast Eagles Academy and South West Academy of Sport – was pleased to be picked for the second year running.
“You’ve just got to work hard in order to get a spot in the team,” she said.
“This year, our goal is to get a few more wins and develop the younger girls in the squad.”
Western Australia will face off against Queensland in two games at Domain Stadium in June.
The team will then head to Queensland in July to take on Victoria Metro, Victoria Country, and Allies.
“It’s a really big honour and probably the best opportunity for us,” Anderson said.
“This time it’s with new girls, it’s at a higher level, and we’ll get more recognition. There are way more pathways this year, so it’s really overwhelming.”
Bunbury star Casara Hill was recently selected for the 2018 WA U16 women’s squad.
