A 52-year-old man guilty of breaching a violence restraining order was told to “shape up” before receiving a suspended sentence.
The man was brought into court via custody on Thursday, May 24, pleading guilty to one count of breaching a violence restraining order from September 2016.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Karl Prep told the court the man had been found by officers at the victim’s Dalyellup residence at 4.50pm on Thursday, May 17.
“She asked me to come over,” the man told police at the time.
The man’s defence lawyer said he was not a threat to the community’s safety or security.
The defence informed the court his client was scheduled to begin a new job this month.
Magistrate Brian Mahon revealed the man had previously committed seven breaches of court orders, three of which led to suspended sentences.
Mr Mahon said the man needed to take drastic steps for the sake of his own future.
After taking the man’s age and circumstances into consideration, the magistrate handed down a term of six months and one day suspended for one year.
