A women’s winter camp aiming at empowering women will be held late next month.
The camp will be run at the Eaton Scout Camp from June 22 to June 24 by Seventh-day Adventist church, a Christian religious based group which nurtures connects and supports women within their communities.
Seventh-day Adventist church volunteer Rochelle Price said the camp caters to women of a variety of different age groups and backgrounds.
“Last year we had a wide variety of ages from 17 to 70, within that group of ladies there were special needs people who were there, people who have come from difficult and positive backgrounds,” she said.
“The camp will have a number of games, activities and workshops like learning how to paint acrylics, there will also be a couple of guest speakers throughout the course of the weekend with a registered nurse and Share the Dignity events coordinator Jodie Timms, which was the chosen charity for this years camp.”
Share the Dignity is an Australian Women’s charity which brings dignity to homeless women who are at risk of domestic violence.
They provide sanitary products for women and also help fund funerals of those killed as a result of domestic violence.
Share the Dignity events coordinator Jodie Timms said it’s a privileged for the charity to have been chosen as the charity for this years camp.
“It’s a privilege to have money raised and products raised for us and just awareness around in the community,” she said.
Seventh-day Adventist church volunteer Rawyn Jones said they have packaged up sanitary items in handbags ready for the camp.
“We will be packing handbags full of necessary sanitary items for ladies and Share the Dignity will take those handbags to give out and distribute where the need is,” Mrs Jones said.
