Four Australind students will compete against others from around the world this month as part of a maths extension program.
Kingston Primary School has been running Maths in Motion for the past four years to provide students with the opportunity to improve their mathematical, reasoning and problem solving skills to create and fine tune a race car.
The program creators based in England run a worldwide challenge each year with the school’s Year 6 students getting into the 2018 grand final.
Kingston Primary School deputy principal Tanya Uren said this year’s final was being held online on June 20 simultaneously in seven countries across multiple time zones.
“The whole program is about showing students that maths has real life application,” she said.
“These guys work really well together, they support each other – they know the program, they have the skills but we’re racing against people we’ve never raced against before.
“Whatever happens I think they’ll do the school proud.”
