One Bunbury boy has impressed state selectors to beat more than 400 others for a spot on the State AFL team.
Chayse Martinson lives and breathes football, since first playing as a seven-year-old.
The now 12-year-old will travel to Canberra in August on the state AFL 12s football squad with 21 others. Chayse said he felt excited about being selected and hoped he would play well.
“I was doing state basketball and I made the squad for that and found out I made footy as well so I quit the basketball for the state footy,” he said.
An avid West Coast Eagles supporter, Chayse said his favourite player was Elliot Yeo.
His mum Martine Martinson said the family had been really happy for him when they found out he’d been selected.
“There were a few tears, just because we were so happy,” she said.
“Chayse’s dad takes him to training every Monday in Perth, local training here Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and then footy on Saturday.”
Playing for the Eaton Boomers locally, Chayse was also named Champion Boy at Bunbury Senior High School and most valuable player during his time playing basketball.
Committing to four out of the seven days of the week to football, Chayse said he never got tired or sick of playing because he loved the sport.
“I want to take it all the way to the AFL,” he said.
