Not even South West Slammers’ players Travis Durnin (29 points) and Brian Voelkel (clinching a double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds) could hold back the Willetton Tigers on Saturday.
Feeling the warmth of a home crowd after two weeks away, the Slammers took their opportunities and led by four points at quarter time.
Thanks to Andrew Black (25) and Damien Scott (18), the visitors were hot on the Slammers’ trail throughout the second term.
Both teams went pound-for-pound in the third, with Willetton edging in front by two at three-quarter time.
Despite the leadership of Clive Weeden (10), the Slammers failed to stop the Tigers from nabbing an 89 to 80 win.
The Slammers women’s team also faced Willetton’s wrath on home soil.
Willetton stars Leah Cotton (20) and Ashli Payne (scoring a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds) were instrumental throughout the clash.
Fresh from helping the South All-star team claim victory, Courtney Bayliss (20), Georgia Denehey (14), and Charlotte van Kleef (14) kept the Slammers in the contest.
Following a hit-and-miss second term, the Slammers closed the gap to seven at three-quarter time.
Willetton extended its lead in the fourth, going on to secure an 84 to 72 win.
