Two South West families and fitness enthusiasts have banded together to create a new sports clothing range with an environmental focus.
Ben and Fleur Chapman together with Paul and Liz Jennings have turned their shared passion for CrossFit and seeing a need for sustainable clothing into their own brand – TnG.
TnG, which stands for touch and go, a common weightlifting term meaning to keep on moving has a clear sustainability and earth-friendly focus with bamboo the material of choice.
Mrs Chapman said they wanted to create their own brand, that was functional but had a sustainability edge to it with the plastic bag ban creating more awareness around recycling.
“We’ve all got kids and looking to the future we thought if we’re going to do something, we want to do it right and we’re going to try and make a difference,” she said.
“We are working very hard at it, doing some pop-up stalls and trying hard to be seen – we’ve had a lot of positive feedback.”
Mrs Jennings said there had been a lot of surprise from people when they found out you could turn plastic bottles into fabrics.
“All our products are made with environmental thinking around reducing our impact on the planet, preserving wildlife and environments, we’re not just another cotton t-shirt imported from some country overseas,” she said.
“I’d like to have enough of a demand so we can put pressure on manufacturers to come up with a bigger range of options, there is a limited amount of fabrics at the moment made out of recycled products but it would be good if there were other ethically sourced, sustainable options.”
