The Incredibles was released all the way back in 2004 – well before the X-Men reboots, DC Universe, and Marvel Cinematic Universe came along.
Picking up seconds after the original, the Parr family is ridiculed for destroying their city while trying to save the day.
Bob Parr/Mr Incredible (Craig T Nelson), Helen Parr/Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), and Lucius/Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) are recruited by an uber-rich entrepreneur yearning to get superheroes back into society’s good graces.
Whereas the original was a mix of child-like imagination and maturity, the sequel – created a whopping 14 years after its predecessor – drops the social subtext in favour of huge set-pieces and light thrills.
Despite lacking the original’s emotional core, Incredibles 2 still delivers enough action, comedy, and joy to satisfy audience members of all ages.
Overall, it makes for an entertaining but ultimately forgettable rollercoaster ride.
